LAQ's #2

GENERAL
1. My novel is called "Soldier's Heart" a fiction book. It was about a young boy named Charley Goddard who grew up in a small farm and enlisted in the First Minnesota Volunteers, he was barely 15 years old and he didn't really know what he was fighting for. Only that he didn't want to miss out on a great adventure. The shooting war as they called it meant horror of combat and the wild luck of survival. He saw things he wished he'd never seen, and wished he could be just back home but he stayed and never ran off. He was so used to the routine of the war that he was no longer scared as he was his first day of battle. He was just waiting for his turn to die, and when he got shot at his last battle he was sad but also happy that his time was over. Though he survived those shots he came back home different he couldn't hold off job's, his wounds didn't heal properly nor his mental anguish. He was elected for country clerk, but before he could serve his wounds and the stress took him and he died in December, 1868. He was only twenty-three years old.
2. The theme of this novel is about the boy Charley and his experience in the battle.
3. The author's tone is sad when he says "He sat, listening to the ripple of the river, watching the water go by, thinking of all the pretty things." definitively something that made me think. Also he was very regretful when he said "He was 21, just waiting to where he should be studying on marriage and raising some young ones. But it couldn't be that way no more."He was also very loving to his mother when he would say "He would write her letters every single day until there was nothing left of him."
 CHARACTERIZATION
1.DIRECT
- You don't know nothing as much as a slick-eared calf.
-He thought then realized he was screaming to them "Where's your damn yell now.?"
INDIRECT
-He started to hide himself, turn away
-Charley saw his partner dying and knew no one would come for help but didn't say nothing.
My last impression of this character is that like every human being we all say things that were not afraid to say but then at time we quiet in order to not cause any misunderstandings.
2.The authors diction is actually always straight forward doesn't use cliches on what hes trying to say.
3. The protagonist is dynamic when it said " Charley nodded and was surprised to find himself crying. Hes a round character who shows his feelings and cares about people who show him good.
4. I Actually feel like if I met this character but who was older than his age its pretty amazing.

The Medium Is The Message

I read the story and watched the video & there was many comparisons between the two. I was actually very surprised when I first started watching the video because it made much more sense. Even though I couldn't hear it I tried my best, just by watching it gave me a better understanding of what the story was about. I actually have a lot of comparing.
The setting of Sleepy Hollow was lonely & spooky. Showed a shadow of hessian the non-headed man. The description of Ichabod was tall, exceedingly lank, narrow shoulders, long arms & legs, hands dangled out of sleeves, feet of shovels, huge ears, large eyes, & a long nose Same as in the movie!
He Would walk by houses and smell the food with delight. He worked as a school teacher at his own school house was lonely around and the saying of "Spare the rod and spoil the child" was on the board. He whipped children except the larger boys, he would go to there house and eat so much and asked for more & more. The mothers would tell him scary stories of goblins & ghost& the Hessian. He went walking home scared of every obstacle & shadows. Next day he was walking to go see Katrina and saw fruits and vegetables and he would see ducks, pigs and every animal as food, he would also think about it. He tried to conquer Katrina's love by teaching her how to sing, Brom Bones was angry. At school a kid gave him an invitation to the party. He got ready as ever thought about marrying Katrina & her wealth. He entered and many women gazed at him but he payed much more attention to the food. Brom wanted to dance with Katrina but Ichabod interfered and Brom was filled with rage. They gathered up to hear stories & Brom talked about his meeting with Hessian, that he beat him when he entered the church and Hessian vanished. Soon everyone left and went home on his horse on the way he was horrified. In a tree he saw a hanged man but in a snap vanished. Then he saw a shadow and it was Hessian he slowly tried going away and singing psalm tunes to get distracted but he kept following but as soon as he saw Hessian with a pumpkin head in his hand he on his horse tried escaping, but Hessian was too fast and caught up to Ichabod and he threw his pumpkin head at Ichabod and he fell off his horse, his hat fell, and he ran away. Brom & Katrina ended up getting married.
So I jotted all this down because it was in the story & the way it was shown in  the video (:

LAQ'S

GENERAL:
1. My book was about a little boy who lived in Pittsburgh during the time of World War 2. He grew up with his dad who worked to maintain him, his mom, and sister. But sadly he was sent to a factory far away from home to build weapons for the U.S. The little boy for his b-day got toy soldiers and a "CASTLE". He soon grew up and fell in love with a girl named Ginny. When his friends started singing up for the war, he wanted in, because he didn't want to be considered a coward. His love Ginny, his mom & dad could not see there little boy go to a place that would possibly kill him. But he refused to stand back and Ginny & him didn't talk until a day after he was ready to leave. The first day at war he saw things he never wished to see. He then saw his best friend Tony die right in front of his eyes that is when he realized war was not a game. They headed out to there last battle against the Japanese and there he saw a CASTLE with lined up soldiers just how he used to play with. He survived but lost so much.
2.The theme of the novel is about loosing everything for war.
3.The authors tone is very kind, he wanted to be with those who struggled & suffered of the war of america ; and sad, he would talk about how day by day he would loose contact with Ginny.
4.
CHARACTERIZATION:
1.Direct Characterization
Ex 1.) "If you die,you miss everything. You won't be back and you'll miss everything" Ch. 7 pg.47
Ex 2.)" I can't get out Ginny. I'm in. I'm not spending the next decade in prison. I'm in." Ch. 9 pg.58
Indirect Characterization:
Ex. 1) "You don't know whats behind it all." Ch. 9 pg.58
Ex 2.) " I just don't like god in a suit" Ch.6 pg. 38
3. I Think The Author Uses Both Approaches To Make People Both See They Use Something Or Say Something Without Knowing Or Knowing What They Caused. The Protagonist is dynamic because he would always talk about how he failed in life just to not be considered/called a coward. He even calls out to Ginny on the book letting her now he's still alive and loving her. His memories and thoughts are all about his past.
4. I Honestly Do feel like I've met this person because at the end this character dedicates this book to his lost love Ginny.

REFLECTING ON MY MIDTERM

I Actually Say In My Mid-Term Test Went Well I Knew All 120 Words By Memory Even Though We Did Half (: , But What Didn't Go So Well Was The Matching, Some Definitions Were Words I Didn't Know Which Made It Hard For Me. I Think That All Of These Words Will Stick In My Mind Because When I Was Studying I Learned Them Quick, Since I've Learned Them Before I Just Needed To Review Once. What I Can Improve For Next Time Is Too Put More Taught Into The Definitions And Really Know What That Definition Could Define To.(:

My Notes ; August 21

The Purpose Of Arguing Is To Get Or Find The Truth,
Dont Believe What People Say, Test Them.

An Awesome Experience.!

For Me There Is Nothing That Is Going To Affect My Participation In This Class, I Have All The Support From Both My Parents & Family. My Best Learning Experience Was My First Day Of School I Learned That You Can Overcome Anything; Shyness, Being Nervous, Worries, Etc. By Stepping Up. I Was On My Way To School, I Would Share These Feelings With My Friends. When The Days Pasty By Got To Know Were I Was Settled And I No Longer Worried Cause I Knew I Was Gonna Do Fine. I Knew What Was Happening Cause I Noticed Every Year It Was The Same. And This Made Me Change The Way I See Things To Not Just Let Myself Get Trapped In Me And Let Out My Taughts. In This Class Im Excited On How Far I Can Let Out Ideas To Changing Even The Littelest Things. I Hope To Overcome My Shyness This Year. And This Way It Will Give Me More Opportunities In Life.!
